Biography

Peter C. Church OAM, B.Com, LLB, LLM was born in 1950 in Sydney, Australia and holds the following degrees: Bachelor of Commerce (University of New South Wales), Bachelor of Laws (University of Sydney) and Master of Laws (University of London). He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia by the Australian Government in 1994 for his services in promoting business between Australia and South East Asia.

He has over 30 years’ experience as a lawyer working and living throughout South East Asia and India. For several years, he was Regional Managing Partner of Freehills (now Herbert Smith Freehills). His areas of specialization include foreign investment throughout South East Asia.

He has written four books: Added Value – the life stories of leading South East Asia business people (published Murmeli, 1999), Added Value – The Life Stories of Indian Business Leaders (published by Roli, 2010), Profiles in Enterprise – Inspiring stories of Indian Business Leaders (published by Roli, 2015) and A Short History of South-East Asia (published by Wiley, 6th edition 2017).

He has been appointed a Professor at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai, India and Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management in Delhi, India. He is currently resident in Singapore where he is Special Counsel to the British law firm Stephenson Harwood (www.shlegal.com) and Chairman of AFG Venture Group (www.afgventuregroup.com). He is also Non Executive Chairman of Bangkok International Associates and travels regularly to Thailand.
